This week Amberton University announced their first doctoral degree. Their first one is a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Counseling. The Counseling program at Amberton is pretty large. This program begins with the Fall 2026 term. $625 per credit. 60 credits including an oral comprehensive exam and an applied project. 100% online program.

Lewis University is introducing a Doctor of Engineering in Data Science, its first DEng, available online or in person.

“With a prior master’s degree in Data Science or a closely related field, a minimum of 54 credit hours are required. […] Without a prior master’s degree in data science or closely related field, a student must earn a minimum of 84 credit hours, but may need up to 93 credit hours depending on whether the student must take foundation courses.”

The program design stands on interesting project-based and interdisciplinary legs. “You will be able to engage in an interdisciplinary project that spans multiple semesters (18 credit hours). These can be collaborative projects with persons or organizations outside of data science. You will have the ability to take up to 12 credit hours in courses outside of the department. This will provide you with more domain knowledge in the field or industry you want to work in.”

DEng tuition is $875 per credit hour x 54 = $47 250 for the 54-credit scenario.

Lewis University is a Roman Catholic (Lasallian) institution in Romeoville, Illinois with about 7000 students, regionally accredited. It’s currently US News Regional Universities Midwest #29.

At their meeting of June 1 2026 (posted to YouTube June 4; discussion of these items starts at 1:12:32), the Indiana Board for Proprietary Education, by unanimous votes and with no contention, approved applications from the American College of Education (ACE) to offer three new fully online degree programs. Approval still is needed from ACE’s institutional accreditor. The programs are:

• Doctor of Business Administration (DBA): 55 semester credits, no concentration or Focus of Study, but three courses are electives.
  
• Doctor of Education in STEM Education: 66 semester credits, equal to existing ACE EdDs. In existing ACE EdDs students take six courses either as a Field of Study in a supporting subject such as Higher Education or Public Health Education, or a General Track using a mix of electives, or those six courses are fulfilled by internal transfer for ACE alumni or waived in a de facto external transfer for eligible Completion Pathway students.
  
• Education Specialist in STEM Education: 34 semester credits, equal to existing ACE EdSes.

Joe Dickerson is a Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) Student at the University of Chicago Graham School.

I may apply for the MLA next spring after I complete the Basic Program. Just one of many options to stay active as a life-long learner.

Per the Academic Program Proposals Preview for the University of Maine System Academic and Student Affairs Committee meeting of June 22, 2026, UMPI has filed an Intent to Plan form for a YourPace CBE Master’s in Human Services (or “Human Service”). Back in a 2025 press release, the UMS had also mentioned that UMPI together with UMFK “plan to develop YourPace human services bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in the near future.”

The other big news from the ASA committee also in the same Proposals Preview is that UMPI is affirmatively still moving forward on a YourPace CBE MS in Healthcare Administration, which they also identify as an MHA. “Proposed launch: Fall 2026 Session 2 or Spring 2027 Session 1.”

This is in addition to the recent launch of the Healthcare Management graduate certificate and concentration within the MS in Business program. The MHA and MSB-HCM programs are not mutually exclusive. The MHA “program leverages existing institutional resources and a collaborative development team of full-time faculty from UMPI and the University of Maine at Fort Kent.” UMFK has a substantial nursing program whose faculty can valuably contribute.

Hello everyone. I am back. 5 Years ago I posted a question here and the answer changed my professional life in a great way. Ashkir and ss20ts put together a degree plan for me. I followed that plan and transferred all the earned credits, a total of --97, to UMPI (Please note that only 90 were used). I finished my degree in 5 months and a month later i was admitted in law school (unreal) I made it to the second year and then I decided to quit, for reasons not worth mentioning here. However, earlier this year I graduated form WGU with an MBA. I completed the degree program in 63 days. I am not here to brag, instead I am seeking help, once again. I am writing my second book and I want to write a step by step guide on what I did exactly, what classes I took, how much it costed me, etc.... I know that some things have changed and that is what I need from you. I am listing the classes I took to complete my BLS and I would like you guys to review them and correct me if some of them are not longer good classes. I am not looking for multiple paths on how to get a variety of degrees, I want to concentrate on what i did and provide and updated version. I am doing this to help others and not with the intention of getting a profit. I will be offering it on Amazon kindle either for free or for about $2.99 depending on Amazon restrictions. If anyone is interested in my first book it is also listed on Amazon (I thought I was not special...I was wrong) it is also free with a kindle subscription and talks about how I went form not education whatsoever to a Masters degree and pilot license ( I just got it 2 years ago) in a span of 5 years.

I applied for FAFSA and was awarded $3,273.00 for the Fall term. UMPI kept $2800 and sent me a check for $473. A month later, I learned that I qualified for the HEERF III (supplemental Financial Aid), and I received a check for $1500.
 
Total out-of-pocket cost - $994 That is correct. I earned a bachelor’s degree, plus I ended up with $994 in my pocket after paying all my expenses.

Increasingly governments even in countries that don’t censor much are adopting or considering restrictions on social media and on AI chatbots for users under a threshold age like 16. Australia and several EU countries are currently enacting restrictions, Canada introduced a bill to do so yesterday, the European Parliament is considering pan-European restrictions, etc.

There are more than a few students under 16 in postsecondary courses designed principally for over 18s, including online.

Social media and AI are increasingly integrated with coursework often directly, or are used for extra-curricular but related networking.

How could (a) these restrictions directly, and (b) the more general concerns about social media and AI that they reflect, affect access to learning and networking?

How could they change how courses are designed, particularly courses that anticipate younger students, and maybe other courses too?
