I want to go to a Christian University
Posted by: Endercreeper01 - 08-12-2025, 07:55 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (13)

I want to find a University that IS a Christian-Affiliated University.
Can you help me find out where I can find the right Christian University, for me:

I hope that Christian Universities can receive more funding. After all: I haven't felt great at hearing about how small the Religions department was at my University.

  Padding my Resume
Posted by: ExiledToGames - 08-12-2025, 06:16 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (7)

I have a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science (Summa Cum Laude) from UMPI completed in 2024.

The plan with this degree is to teach in High Schools and unfortunately it isn't really useful outside of that. I want to diversify my skills/resume so if I ever do want to career change out of education, I have a path to do so. Is it worth getting another Bachelors or should I look to get a Masters in something? I don't have a specific career in mind, I just want to have the backup plan in case I need it.

I am looking for 100% online, I enjoyed the Competency Based Education and enjoyed the lack of exams at UMPI. I could do exams but proctored exams may be difficult to do with school hours and responsibilities.

Age:28
Location:FL (US)
Finances: Not looking to go into debt.

Thank you for your thoughts.

  Inappropriate Grading Delays SDC
Posted by: sarahmac - 08-12-2025, 07:51 AM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (3)

I signed up for the SDC all you can eat. 3 class slots supposedly. But I have been waiting almost a month for grading and although they did initially respond to a customer service enquiry a week ago saying they would look into it, they've been silent ever since. I am starting to think this is a scam.

It isn't unlimited classes, which is how it was advertised, if they are going to take a month to grade things and free up the class slots. I am actually incredibly annoyed to the point I am thinking about escalating my complaint to the BBB, because frankly this is false advertising.

Anyone had any luck contacting them via something other than the generic customer service form?

Hello,

Your Location: Pennsylvania
Your Age:27
What kind of degree do you want?: Bachelors to Masters Library Science
Current Regional Accredited Credits:0
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: none
Any certifications or military experience?: no
Budget:As cheap as possible
Commitments: I work part time
Dedicated time to study: 6-8 hours
Timeline:ASAP
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: Zero

It’s been a long time since a I’ve been on this forum, almost 7 years. I am finally ready to commit and put my mind into getting a bachelors in hopes to also getting a Masters in Library Science. I understand that Sophie/Saylor is one of the ways to go about it, but I don’t know the exact plan. I’ve been reading some threads on here, but haven’t found anything with my specific path. I was looking at going to TESU since you can put more credits (I believe if I got that right ). Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated! Smiler

Excelsior Business Capstone and UMPI MAOL
Posted by: Zizi - 08-12-2025, 04:50 AM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (3)

Hi guys, I am in the last week of my Cornerstone and Information Literacy at Excelsior for a Bsc in General Business (I was able to transfer in 113 credits which I earned through Sophia & Study.com). I am starting the Capstone course on the 1st of September but I am unable to get any info or reviews online whatsoever about the course except the syllable on Excelsiors website. If anyone on here has done the Capstone course, how is it structured? How much time should I be setting aside for the course compared to the Cornerstone and Info Literacy?

When I complete my degree at Excelsior, I want to immediately do the MAOL through UMPI so I need to start planning now. To those who have done the MAOL at UMPI, how many sessions did it take you to complete the courses? If I want to complete my Masters on a budget, could I be able to finish all 12 courses in 2 sessions or is that a little too ambitious? What is the fastest that people on here have completed it?

  ETAMU summer 25 graduation
Posted by: ltw900rr - 08-11-2025, 09:24 PM - Forum: General "Big 3", B&M colleges, and other colleges - Replies (4)

It's been a long time since I made a post on here. We just got home from the summer 25 graduation at ETAMU. Our oldest son completed his degree in General Studies and graduated on Saturday. He transferred in 11 hours from community college and was able to complete Sophia courses and ETAMU classes and graduate in less than a year. He also received his Summa Cum Laude medal, and was proud to wear it during graduation and all day Saturday.

It was a great weekend for our family, and we are so proud of our son for finishing his degree.

I just got back my final assessment grade for my last course at UMPI. I only needed 10 courses and got 4s across the board (which I believe is equal to an A. I hope so anyway). Super excited aobut this achievement that was 30 years in the making! Thanks to all of you on this forum that helped me, both directly and indirectly. This is where I started this journey almost 18 months ago and got all the information and help I needed to make this happen! Thanks!

Sophia not more than 2 courses at the same time even waiting for grading
Posted by: Kab - 08-11-2025, 09:47 AM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (2)

So Sophia is getting a new rule (help representative informed me). No more extra courses if you are waiting for grading in your 2 courses. Now you have to sit on your hands. For example English composition II is just wonderful now.
So... go to the new straighter line offer or to Study.com that have better politics (my humbleopinion)... is your choice. Unless you want to do courses without touchstones.
The rule started on August 4 2025 for what they told me.
Remember: If in 48 hours there is no grading contact support.... yeahhh...

UMPI BA Criminal Justice Plan for International Student — Help Wanted
Posted by: Edriveless - 08-10-2025, 10:15 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (4)

Hello everyone!

I am sponsoring another student from Manila Philippines. He completed the Alternative Learning System ALS which is the Philippine government’s program equivalent to a high school diploma for out-of-school youth. He is 32 years old currently working as a day trader and wants to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice. I think a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice through UMPI’s fully online competency-based program would be a great fit for him.

Like I did for another student I am helping him build an accelerated affordable degree plan. The plan will use as many transfer credits as possible from Sophia.org and Study.com MOOCs plus the required UMPI residency courses which are 10 courses or 30 credits. He has no prior college credits and a budget under four thousand dollars which I am fully sponsoring. He can study full time eight to twelve hours a day and aims to finish the bachelor’s degree in two terms or less.

Here is a quick profile summary
• Location Philippines Manila
• Age 32
• Education Completed ALS high school equivalent
• Degree Goal BA in Criminal Justice online competency-based
• Current Accredited Credits None
• Transfer Credits Planned Mostly from Sophia.org and Study.com
• Certifications or Military None
• Budget Under four thousand dollars fully sponsored
• Time Commitment Full time eight to twelve hours per day
• Timeline Finish in two terms or less
• Additional Notes Prefers competency-based education needs maximum transfer credit acceptance UMPI residency courses must be taken directly at UMPI

I am looking for advice or templates on
• How to maximize transfer credits from Sophia and Study.com preferably with no proctored exams to save on costs toward UMPI’s general education and electives
• How to plan and schedule the 10 UMPI residency courses efficiently core Criminal Justice and capstone
• Best practices for supporting an international student with an ALS background applying to UMPI
• Any pitfalls or special considerations for this path
• Recommendations on documentation or credential evaluation needed for ALS completion possibly Scholaro

If anyone has experience with UMPI or accelerated online Criminal Justice degrees your input would be greatly appreciated. I want to make sure Jr can succeed without financial or bureaucratic obstacles.

The degree requires a total of 120 credits

Transfer Credits 90 credits
I prefer him to take courses through StraighterLine Sophia.org and Study.com. However I am not sure which courses currently transfer due to recent changes in UMPI’s policies

UMPI Residency Credits 30 credits
The student must complete 10 core Criminal Justice courses directly through UMPI to satisfy residency and major requirements. These courses include
1 CRJ 100 Introduction to Criminal Justice
2 CRJ 200 Introduction to Corrections
3 CRJ 210 Criminal Law
4 CRJ 220 Criminal Procedure
5 CRJ 230 Juvenile Justice
6 CRJ 240 Criminal Investigation
7 CRJ 250 Criminal Justice Administration
8 CRJ 260 Criminal Justice Research Methods
9 CRJ 270 Criminal Justice Capstone
10 One additional upper level Criminal Justice elective

Thanks so much in advance

  StraighterLine pricing changes...
Posted by: bjcheung77 - 08-08-2025, 09:30 PM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (10)

StraighterLine has changed their pricing to the following 3 options.  Pay as you go, 4 month semester, annual 12 month membership. In order to get the most out of your membership, I would recommend completing the 27 general education classes (17 classes and 10 labs if you need them) in the 4 month membership and then cancel it.

If you need specific classes then do one extra month for $99 and purchase the classes that are not offered in the discount 4 month membership.  I would not recommend to do the annual 12 month membership even if you don't have enough time to finish, I would just add an extra month membership, a total of 6 months at most.

1) Pay As You Go
Enroll in courses as needed, with total flexibility.
Ideal for students looking to perfect the work-life-school balance on a course-by-course basis.

$99 / month + cost of course
Pay for courses individually
Renews monthly, cancel anytime. One-time course fee.

2) Semester Plan 4-MONTH MEMBERSHIP
Balance speed with flexibility.
Perfect for tackling your course load over multiple months, while keeping costs low.

$699 $349 / 4 months
Complete access to 27 of our most popular courses
Renews every 4 months at full price, cancel anytime.

3) Annual Plan 12-MONTH MEMBERSHIP
More time to finish more credits.
A must for students maximizing their credits and flexibility.

$1,499 / year
Complete access to 27 of our most popular courses
Renews every 12 months, cancel anytime.

You should compare this with the Sophia.org and Study.com discount offerings and see which would benefit you more.  All three providers have started to remove the proctoring aspect of taking exams, thus, they will work with those who prefer none.  I would check out the classes offered and decide which options would be for you.

Side Note: Before Sophia.org changed to a subscription at $99/month all you can eat for their 75 classes and Study.com offering a $95/month for 67 classes or $235/month for all their classes, I took over 34 classes from StraighterLine.  This was at least 8 years ago when they had proctoring with ProctorU.   Link: StraighterLine Pricing
