Application to edit documents selectively - Cheap or Free
Posted by: bjcheung77 - 01-20-2025, 01:31 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (2)

For documents and other file types such as PDF's, is there an application that can merge specific pages of a PDF with another? For example, I have X PDF's, I want to selectively grab pages from those Docx/PDF's and combine them into one... Is there an application for that? Something like a cut/paste or snipping parts that I want to review later?

This is for generating a Coles or Collins Notes version of a set of textbook chapters for review, so I can review parts I need to retain info in those hard to grasp concept areas or points I want to.  It's easier than copy/pasting into a document, or getting screenshots, etc, much faster than writing down or highlighting those notes as well.   Anything out there?

  General Education Elective Question
Posted by: AshDash - 01-19-2025, 10:31 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (2)

It has been quite a while since I went to school. In 2005, I attended college and took whatever I wanted without any guidance. I took a ridiculous amount of Child Dev classes at my local college.

Now, here I am, returning to school and decided on the BSBA program at TESU. I am currently working through some of my Sophia General Ed requirements. My question is... what can I do with all of those ChildDev credits I received? Could they possibly count towards my electives? I am a little confused to how it all works. I plan on applying to TESU in May and will see where I stand then, but just hoping someone can give me some insight.

Thanks for the help!!

Public Online Mexican University: Instituto Politecnico Nacional (IPN)
Posted by: Avidreader - 01-18-2025, 04:11 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - No Replies

Mexico has a prestigious Technological Public University known as the Instituto Politecnico Nacional or IPN for short. While the UNAM offers all sorts of degrees, the IPN tends to offer mostly STEM degrees. I was pondering sharing a post about this university in the past because the costs are insanely cheap (20 USD a semester), but I couldn’t find the updated online school website.

The online school offers several Bachelors and a few Master degrees. Sign ups open February 4th and apparently there is a knowledge assesment exam that is supposed to be done in person. Looks like if travel to Mexico City is too difficult, they might be willing to let the applicant take the entrance exam online.

Bachelors

Business Administration and Development
Archieving Degree (Seems like a librarian adjacent degree)
Librarian degree
International Commerce
Accounting
Accounting and Finance
International Business
Commercial Relationships
Tourism

Masters

Education degree (Physics)
Education degree (Math)
Marketing

PhD

Education degree (Physics)
Education degree (Math)

They seem to also have an offering of Associates degrees in Business, Commerce, Accounting, Computer Science, Software Development, Environmental Urban Improvement, Graphics Design, Marketing, Nutrition, IT, Lab Chemist and Welding (not sure how these 2 degrees could be done fully online).

  Sophia Calculus 1 credit transfer
Posted by: nathan$ - 01-18-2025, 07:41 AM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (18)

Hey guys, I have what I hope is a quick question. I am pursuing a BA in computer science and currently have 78 credits applied, 60 from community college + 18 ACE. Since I have never attended a 4 year school, the max number of credits I can transfer is 90.  The computer science degree says it is 120 credits, but is actually 121 since every class in the degree is 3 credits except calculus 1 which is 4 credits. Looking on My Progress, however, reveals that I really only need 3 credits of calculus. I completed calculus 1 on sophia which says it is worth 4 ACE credits.

The question I have is, when they transfer it over, will it count as 3 credits of transfer, or 4? The reason I ask is because if it is 4 credits, I will be at 82 credits transferred in and could only bring 2 additional ACE courses, bringing me to 88 credits, but if they only apply 3 of the 4 credits as transfer, I will have 81 and can bring 3 additional courses. I emailed advising last week to ask if an exception could be made which would allow me to transfer 91 credits, since the degree need 121 and I'd still be taking 30 with TESU, and they told me that no exceptions would ever be made regarding maximum transfer credit.

Are study.com psychology courses easy and very doable or hard?
Posted by: whiverem - 01-18-2025, 02:13 AM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (11)

And how long might it take to finish one?

I'm only interested in ones that transfer to and apply to the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) bachelor's degree psychology major. It seems like it would be these courses at study.com:

  • Psychology 104: Social Psychology
  • Psychology 105: Research Methods in Psychology
  • Psychology 311: Physiological Psychology
  • Psychology 302: Cognitive Psychology
  • Psychology 306: Advanced Abnormal Psychology
Are these easy?

Are there pre-requisites for these at study.com? Can you do them in any order? I'd really appreciate it if I can find this out.

If I can do at least 3 of these, like 104, 302, and 306 I can graduate a lot faster and in no time, and at a much lower price tag.

Do you have to write anything, like an essay, or are you just taking quizes and tests to pass? Can you take quizes or tests unlimited number of times, or is there a limit, without paying more? Lots of thank you.

Seeking Advice on Pursuing an Affordable and Accredited Online Master Program
Posted by: KingRagnarrr - 01-17-2025, 02:15 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (9)

Hello everyone,
I’m a 32-year-old cybersecurity professional from Belgium, working full-time in the field. Although I have solid work experience and certifications, I never completed my bachelor’s degree in IT due to personal and health challenges during my studies. As I matured, I realized that many employers in Belgium, especially in the public sector, prioritize having a recognized degree. Since a bachelor’s degree is mandatory for public service roles and often required by consulting IT companies due to client demands, I’ve been exploring ways to obtain an accredited qualification.
My Educational Background and Efforts

  1. Master in Cybersecurity (Propio):
    • In 2022, after extensive research on forums and other resources, I pursued a Master in Cybersecurity (60 ECTS, título propio) through Structuralia in partnership with Universidad Isabel I (UI1).
    • At the time, this appeared to be the fastest and most practical option to gain a degree. The program included a final master’s project, and I was admitted based on my unfinished bachelor’s studies, certifications, and work experience.
    • I paid approximately €4,000, which included a physical copy of the diploma.
  2. MBA through ENEB (Propio):
    • I also completed an MBA (60 ECTS, título propio) through ENEB.
    • Thanks to a discount code, I only paid €199 for the program.
  3. Unfinished Bachelor’s Degree:
    • I have 77 ECTS credits from my earlier bachelor’s studies in IT, which remain incomplete.
Challenges with Degree Recognition
  • NARIC Belgium Refusal:
    • When I applied for equivalency for the Master in Cybersecurity, NARIC Belgium denied the request, citing several reasons:
      • Structuralia is not listed in the RUCT (Registro de Universidades, Centros y Títulos), meaning it is not officially accredited in Spain.
      • The partnership with Universidad Isabel I (UI1) was deemed irrelevant because the program itself (título propio) does not carry the same accreditation as degrees listed in the RUCT.
    • Despite arguing that similar degrees had been evaluated positively by NARIC Belgium in the past (e.g., one as a bachelor and another as a master), this did not influence their decision.
  • Legal Efforts:
    • I hired a lawyer and spent over a year challenging the decision in court. Although I highlighted inconsistencies in NARIC’s evaluation process, such as why similar degrees were recognized previously without changes to the law, the court ultimately sided with NARIC.
    • Escalating to the Supreme Court is an option, but it would likely result in NARIC re-evaluating the case and issuing another negative decision, making the effort costly and potentially futile.
  • Other Attempts:
    • I applied to NARIC France and Luxembourg but received similar negative results, reinforcing the challenges with gaining recognition for título propio degrees in the EU.
    • While Validential evaluated my Master in Cybersecurity as a regionally accredited master, this does not meet the standards for NARIC equivalency in the EU.
Open University UK: A Speculative Option
One option I’ve considered is pursuing an MSc in Cybersecurity from The Open University UK.
  • The full program consists of 90 ECTS and costs approximately £14,000.
  • Since I already hold a Master in Cybersecurity (60 ECTS, título propio), there is a possibility that I might receive some credit transfer, which could reduce the total cost.
  • However, I am not 100% certain whether Open University would accept my título propio for admission or grant credit transfer, making this idea speculative at this stage.
  • Even with potential credit transfer, the remaining cost would likely still be a significant financial burden, as I am still paying off loans related to my legal efforts.
What I’m Looking For
I am seeking an affordable, online master’s or bachelor completion program that:
  • Accepts my existing degrees and credits (77 ECTS from my bachelor’s, 60 ECTS from my Master in Cybersecurity, and 60 ECTS from my MBA),
  • Is fully accredited and recognized, and
  • Would be evaluated as at least a bachelor’s degree in Belgium or other EU countries.
Having a recognized degree is critical for my career progression. The lack of a formal, accredited qualification is now a significant barrier—not only for public sector roles but also for opportunities in consulting IT companies, as many of their clients require employees to hold at least a bachelor’s degree. My ultimate goal is to complement my work experience and certifications with a degree that meets regional equivalency standards.
If anyone has suggestions for affordable online programs that align with these criteria—or any advice on alternative paths—I would be extremely grateful for your input.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I look forward to hearing your recommendations and insights

UPDATE:
Budget:I don't really have a budget, as I'm honestly looking for the cheapest option possible. Also because I'm still paying off loans I took for the lawyer and court which costed 6000€+-
Study habit: I work fulltime and also go to the gym, so I will be studying mostly late nights and weekends.
Certifications: EITCA security academy (24 ECTS of courses as they claim) , Azure fundamentals, ISTQB foundation, Certified White Hat Hacker-Global Tech Council, Cyber Threat Intelligence-Coursera (if this counts?)

Top-up via OFQUAL vs APL (Accreditation of Prior Learning)/Credit Transfer
Posted by: lincolnlawyer - 01-17-2025, 08:56 AM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - No Replies

I have some questions on the top-up scheme in the UK system.

As far as I’m aware, how this works is that you complete a level 7 “postgraduate” diploma and apply for top-up to a master’s program for a significantly reduced fee. All you have to complete is a dissertation module.

But when I tried looking at top-up programs, most seemed to be MBAs (there are more subjects offered on OFQUAL level 7 than business management/the like), and top-up options were scarce. Meanwhile, most MBA programs offer “Accreditation of Prior Learning”, which is basically the UK equivalent of credit transfer  in the US system.

The training instituions offering the level 7 diplomas, on the other hand, often list specific universities whom they partner with as top-up options.

So my questions are:
1. Are my top-up options limited by where I choose to do my level 7 diploma?
2. Theoretically, is it possible to complete a level 7 diploma and apply to a normal master’s program under the Accreditation of Prior Learning scheme?
3. If (2) is possible, does it also come at a reduced tuition rate?

Happy to hear from anyone who’s familiar/had experience with this.
