Hi fellas,

I just started my UMPI journey since July.7th. I transferred in 89 credits from Sophia.org, waived the second language requirment because English was my third language.

Three and half weeks in I've finished BUS220 and BUS200.

Ten more courses to go. And by this pace I would probably finish the degree in two subscription terms.

The true reason I could knock down theses classess quick I guess have something to do with I am already PMP certified, learned some bussiness aspects through work and crash courses and now more feel like a brush up on my old memories instead of completely learning new things.

Probably would declare a BLS in Pre Law after my BBA in Management, since I might be applying this winter for 2026 enrollment of law school. Will be documenting those if anyone is interested, but I guess then I would need more than 60 credits finished at UMPI? So I would need a thrid or a fourth term. Already got an 168 of LSAT in my June test. Will be taking another test in early August as well.

Will be applying to Georgia Tech's OMSA after UMPI as well, backup plan for law school didn't pan out. I wish UMPI could provide CS/data/stats major as well... I mean I am aware that WGU exist, but I just have some preferences for schools have a actual brick and mortar campus.

Want them to be online and as cheap as humanly possible, lol.

Hello everyone,

I'm nearly done with the credits requirements for what's become a three degree plan at TESU.

1. BA Computer Science
2. BS Aviation Flight Technology
3. ASNSM Mathematics

If my planning is correct, I'm only missing 12 RA credits before enrolling.

Total RA planned: 30

Currently done:
3 TEL American Government MACU

Residency requirements:
3 APS-4010
3 LIB-4970
3 SOS-1100
3 ePack
2 Labs 
1 credit course
= 15

Missing prior to application:
12 4x (Teceps or TEL)

I've attached my detailed plans for the General Education requirements and the Area of Study (AOS) for each degree. I know it's a lot of information, but I've done my best to align everything with the requirements I've found on the TESU wiki, forums, and other resources. Any feedback on my plan is truly appreciated.

Some questions:
1) Can I use AOS credits from one degree to fullfill the general electives of the other?
2) I have purposedly made sure there are no more than 9 credits overlapping between the AOS of the 3 degrees. Greatest overlap is ASNSM with 9 (Discrete Math, Calculus and Statistics).
3) From what I've gathered, the Google Cloud Data Analytics certificate is counted for atleast 6 upper level credits and for the respective TESU courses (as listed on my planning). Is that accurate?
4) Any other RA recommendations that are self paced and accessible? If not, I believe I'll stick with math related TECEPs instead of trying to study something from scratch. But I'm open to suggestions.
5) Am I overlooking anything?

Kind of a BS post, but I'm curious.This forum goes pretty far back from what I can see. Who is the longest running member in this forum that is currently active (at least every now and then)?

end point school is TAMUC (now ETAMU)

son-in-law working towards his degree and is looking to fill the 090 Component area - speech -  US-Fund of Public Speaking or US-Business/Prof Speaking


He is considering Study.com or Sophia for public speaking.   Which do you suggest?  Or is there any other course that might fulfill this area? 

Have a daughter who took public speaking at Straighterline but son-in-law doesn't want to pay $180 ($100 membership plus $79 class fee) for straighterline when there are other more economical options.

It is my “plan” to earn college credit for my ABET BSESET via TESU’s portfolio review process, much like it was Captain Smith “plan” for the Titanic’s first transatlantic journey to be uneventful. Unlike the good captain, I can see trouble on the horizon. I have attempted to address some of my concerns with the folks at TESU, but my attempts have clearly wanted of success. Perhaps you can help.
 
My concerns involve what TESU will review for portfolio PLA college credit and what they won’t, and how persnickety they are likely to be.
 
My situation is complicated by the fact that I wish to have as many engineering credits on my technology transcript as possible, both to make it more of an engineering’ish degree and because I actually want to study engineering. Ideally, this would be achieved by substituting PLA-based engineering course for technology courses, but I'd also like to have the option of adding PLA-based engineering courses as electives/excelsior/etc.
 
Q1. Will TESU's portfolio review award engineering credit for engineering study, or will they award technology credit for engineering study (where an engineering course subsumes a technology course), or will they not review such a portfolio at all? (I believe I asked such a question to someone relevant at TESU years ago, and I believe the answer had something to do with “learning outcomes,” but it’s so hard to tell when someone is being evasive or just incomplete. And, yes, "incomplete" is the bowdlerize version of what I wanted to write.)

Q2. Some institutions classify exactly the same course under two different departments. For example, whether an intro to PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) course is classified as an engineering course, an mechatronics course, or literally both, varies. (TESU classifies one as a CTR course, and I'm sure some institutions classify such a course as an ET course.) How important is a courses classification as apposed to what it actually covers?
 
3. If TESU awards LL credit for a course, but the syllabus I’m using for a portfolio review awards UL credit for a similar, but presumably legitimately more advanced course, am I likely to have a problem?
 
4. Is TESU’s “PLA Portfolio Assessment Course Description Database” (https://www2.tesu.edu/plasearch.php) a convenience or a restriction?

On July 16, 2025, “SophiaPrincess” started a thread called “Master List of Online Platforms with College Courses/Degrees” (https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...es-Degrees). It is interesting, but it commingles college level learning with college credit awarding learning. As knowledge is irrelevant – only degrees proclaiming knowledge have any worth – it seems to me that a list of ways for an intelligent adult to earn TRANSFERABLE college credit by alternate means might be very useful. I might add that before posting this I conducted a search here for the phrase College Credit by Exam: almost all of the results were dated 2012 or older.
 
At this point I would like to make useful contributions to this thread to “prime the pump.” Sadly, I can’t.
· ETA (Electronic Technicians Association, https://www.etai.org/index.html) used to have a very few ACE reviewed certification exams – I know because I took two – but the exams are no longer credit reviewed, and the entire organization seems like a shell of its former self.
· One of the “big-three” (the worst of the big three, don’t ask me how I know) used to review the EIT/FE exam (Engineer-in-Training, renamed to Fundamentals of Engineering) for credit. This was fantastic, as passing the EIT/FE is of considerable value just on its own and awarding it the heaps of college credit it represents was a fantastic bargain. Needless to say, they don't any more. Ditto their former custom certification review for credit.
· There was once an organization that preformed portfolio-based PLAs with the intention that they be used by colleges, but they are long gone.
· Ohio University, back when they cared about distance education, would theoretically allow one to take exams for college credit even beyond the exams for college credit they normally offered. As regards the bespoke exams, I know this was “more honoured in the breach than th' observance” as far as electrical engineering was concerned, and I know not whether or how frequently it was ever done. My strong but unverified opinion that this is not now done at all.

If anyone knows of any colleges, reputable institutions, whatever, that will award transferable college credit for portfolio-base PLA, independent study (of an ordinary nature), etc. do speak up!
 
Bonus: anyone knows of any institutions that will award transferable credit for merely passing the EIT/FE (rather than using passing the EIT/FE as fodder for a portfolio review) I will award you a fantastic bonus: I will either kiss you or promise never to kiss you. ;-) You're welcome.

Undergraduate students are blessed with a plethora of inexpensive, even free, sources of college credit.  I have not found this to be the case at the graduate level. Other than transferring ENEB or Level 7/8 diplomas with a foreign credit evaluation, does anyone know of cheap source for earning graduate credit for transfer? Ideally, regionally accredited.

How long does study.com typically to grade assignments? I submitted one paper over 3 weeks ago, this is probably a month now, I have finished all the courses I wanted to complete via study.com and then cancelled my membership while waiting for the final grades of my courses to be generated as I still have not received feedback because it was set to renew on the 17th of June. I submitted some of these within the first or second week of my subscription and by the time my subscription ended, I still had not received feedback. I then cancelled my membership because I don't have any more courses to complete with them.

They now sent me an email saying that they can't verify one of the sources on my paper and that I should resubmit, and I sent an email back asking if I can email the paper back because reactivating my membership of $235 only to resubmit a paper seems unreasonable. But I am more frustrated by the fact that it has taken so long to finally get feedback. They have not responded to my email. I have sent multiple emails and messages to support to enquire about the other pending grades as the deadline for submitting transcripts at Excelsior is the 15th of August, so I can enrol for the Capstone starting beginning of September. 

My academic advisor told me to factor in two weeks after requesting for the transcripts because SDC uses mail to send them through to the schools. Now Study.com has not responded to me despite the multiple emails and messages because I am panicking that I am running out of time. Is there another way of getting through to them? Has anyone encountered this before?
