  GEC 4A
Posted by: DavidGood - 08-05-2024, 09:39 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (2)

I am clearing up some loose ends before sept 1.
Just realized I do not have 4A in the GEC covered.

UMPI's transfer database for SOPHIA says:
SUCCESS 1001 Student Success 1.00 FYS 100 First Year Seminar 1.00 GLO4:LOA

I don't see a class with this name in Sophia.

Does anyone know what covers this requirement in Sophia?

Gracias.

Email invitations for the 2024 TESU Commencement Ceremony on Saturday October 5th recently went out to eligible graduates. I'm excited for the event, and also plan to take some time to see the Northeastern US.
Any other DegreeForum members participating this year? We should organize a meetup.

  Rant about "affordable" MBA programs
Posted by: Heartstrings - 08-04-2024, 07:59 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (13)

I am not sure if this is a rant or not. I already have two Master's degrees and I am PhD-ABD. I was looking to go for an MBA that I could pay out of pocket. I am looking to use it just to study not to land a job. UoPeople's prices have doubled since I last considered them. They went from $200 to $400 per class. My advisor couldn't speak to me because they came from a culture or religion that doesn't talk to females. I ended up dropping them. With their prices, I might as well go to a RA school that has the proper business accreditations. They are some that are few thousand more than their current prices. I thought about HAU but I need to ask if they have a payment plan on one class at time. I can't come up with a large sum at once. If anyone knows please let me know about HAU. If not I will have to look somewhere else. I did apply to Elmwood for their MLM program and I do live in a state that has the SARA authorizations.

Georgia Tech Master of Science in Analytics

I didn't see a thread on this, apologies if one exists.

Has anyone entered/completed this program?

I am considering it and the Illinois iMSM. My questions are:

1 - How math-heavy or calculation-heavy is this program? I can do some, but I am worried about a program that is almost entirely focused in that area. It would play to my weaknesses. But then again, maybe that would be beneficial - maybe weaknesses could become strengths.

2 - How long does it realistically take? Their web site says 2-3 years. But, it also says self-paced, so I am wondering if a motivated person can go through it much faster than that, say in one year. But I also realize that GT is a whole different thing than, say, UMPI (which says MAOL takes one year, but I would expect it to take me 8 to 16 weeks).

Also, if anybody has general remarks about the UIUC iMSM vs GT MSA that don't fit those questions, I'd be interested to hear those as well.

Thanks!

Is your major on the diploma?
Posted by: Sarajane - 08-04-2024, 09:43 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (4)

I remember seeing someone mention concentrations are not listed on the diploma. Is this still true? If someone does a ba in blank would that be listed in that way or just Bachelors of Arts. Is there a way to request the concentration to be listed I doubt but thought I’d ask lol because I notice they list all the minors. I’m thinking about switching to a bba but idk how much of a difference it would make to see Bachelors of Arts in business admin.

BA History at UMPI course requirements
Posted by: majic29 - 08-04-2024, 09:32 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (9)

Hello everyone! I am going to apply for fall 2 at UMPI for History on YourPace in the next week, and wanted to check if I have these correct in what is needed for the courses. I have completed my gec and have a bunch of electives from Sophia, but was a little confused on the minimum amount of UL history courses that is needed. I posted this on r/UMPI as well.

SPA 101 SPANISH 1 (complete) (duplicate)

SPA 102 SPANISH 2 (complete)

HTY 115 WORLD CIVILIZATION 1

HTY 116 WORLD CIVILIZATION 2

HTY 161 US HISTORY 1 (complete) (duplicate)

HTY 162 US HISTORY 2 (complete)

HTY 301 MEDIEVAL EUROPE (pre)

HTY 370 ISRAEL ARAB CONFLICT (non)

HTY 350 US ENVIRONMENTAL HISTORY (us)

HTY UL ELECTIVES

xxHTY 315 GREECE, ROME & THE EARLY CHURCHxx

HTY 313 EARLY MODERN EUROPE

HTY 439 THE VIETNAM WARS

HTY 489 HISTORY OF INFECTIOUS DISEASE

HTY 377 MODERN CHINA

HTY 456 FILMS OF THE COLD WAR

POS Courses

POS 101 US GOVERNMENT (complete) (duplicate)

POS 211 INTRO TO POLITICAL THOUGHT

Am I correct in using POS 101 as one of the POS courses required?
Also, is this the correct amount of minimum UL history courses required (8)? Or will I need more?

My goal is to have the minimum 10 courses to take at UMPI, if I am able to. I just found out that YourPace doesn't have HTY 315 apparently, although it is listed on their requirements. But my main questions are if POS 101 can be duplicated for one of the POS courses, and if it is 8 UL history courses total that is required for the degree, or more. Thank you for any help!

  Taking exams for online courses
Posted by: stats-time - 08-04-2024, 06:48 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

I'm a student located outside the US, and I'm looking into taking some online courses at a few different colleges. However, I'm running into some issues figuring out how to take tests and exams, since it's pretty difficult to find testing centers where I am.

I'm considering programs at:

  • Clovis Community College
  • St. Louis Community College
  • Santa Fe Community College
  • University of the Cumberlands
  • Luna Community College
  • New Mexico Community College
  • Mesalands Community College
For those of you taking online classes at these schools (or really any US colleges) from outside the US, how do you handle exams and tests? Are there alternatives to using testing centers? Do any of these schools offer fully online proctoring?

Any tips or experiences would be super helpful.

SARA Source - catalog of distance education programs
Posted by: stats-time - 08-03-2024, 02:13 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

Just stumbled upon this: https://sarasource.org/

A lot of colleges/universities mentioned are traditional B&M with online offerings.

The tuition and fees are a little inconsistent. Sometimes they're displayed as cost per credit hour and sometimes as total cost.

Quote:SARA Source is a searchable national catalog of distance education programs offered by SARA-participating institutions.

SARA Source contains program information submitted by SARA-participating institutions. Information includes:

    Subject area of study
    Type of credential offered
    Delivery method
    Instructional language
    Tuition and fees
    Average time to complete
    Institution type

What is a SARA-participating institution, and why would I want to attend one?

A college or university that has been approved to participate in SARA may offer distance education programs to students in other SARA member states.

I like Elon Musk. I like Maria Montssori. Her face was on the Italian 1000 Lire note until Italy switched to the Euro.  I always had fists full of Lire when I was a young Sailor on liberty in Italy. Heart Big Grin
