  Transcript Eval
Posted by: Momof3Girls - 08-11-2024, 11:24 AM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (2)

I sent my daughter's transcript to TESU and they applied everything wonky. I am in the process of fixing it. She should have just 3 classes left for her BA in Psych & AS in Bus - capstone, SOS, and 1 UL Psych ... she is currently wrapping up a Coopersmith and a SDC course that she took over the summer.

TESU implied that I had already used "my two credit evaluations" .... I can't find anything here or on their site about it and the email question went unanswered. Help! Is ther a fee to add in more classes? is it not allowed?

Thanks!

  New UMPI Academic Catalog 2024-2025
Posted by: turbotortuga - 08-10-2024, 09:53 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (14)

Heads up, guys. It looks like UMPI has made some signifigant changes to the degree requirements for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. I count 6 new required courses for the BBA degrees, along with an increase in the BBA core to 57 sem hours up from 36 sem hours, with a reduction in the concentration hours to 12 sem hours per concentration. This means that once the BBA core is completed, it may be even easier to get multiple BBA concentrations completed depending on the individual students goals. I also count 3 new courses in the BA Accounting degree plan, along with a elimination of BUS 469, so an increase of 6 sem hours for that degree.

  MAT140

Does anyone recall what topics are covered in MAT140.

I am waiting for fall I to start. I’m a bit bored, so I might as well watch some Khan Academy videos to pre-study for this class. Should be a quick one, but the faster I plow through this, the better.

Thank you.

Hello everyone, I have just found out that Health 302: Health Services Policy from study.com will no longer require a final proctored exam after 9/3/2024, only the assignments and the quizzes. It has ACE recommendation until 9/30/2024 for 3 UL credits in healthcare policy.

The great thing about Elon Musk is that he speaks the truth
Posted by: LevelUP - 08-10-2024, 01:17 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (16)

The great thing about Elon Musk is that he speaks the truth, unlike most people. The truth often pisses people off, as it can go against conventional societal beliefs.

If you listen to what Elon Musk said, he mentioned:

     1. You don't need college to learn things; everything is basically available for free.

True. You can learn everything online, buy cheap books, and educate yourself.

     2. You need evidence of exceptional ability in the absence of a college degree to land a high-paying job.

True. You need a portfolio or some sort of track record of exceptional ability, and you could get a job at a Fortune 500 company making six figures.

https://youtu.be/Io3sdAAcZLw?si=ue7bMrFFpnY4xMQO

However, what he didn't say is that this path isn't for everyone. You can't wave a magic wand or BS your way to exceptional ability. This method takes time, dedication, and a high level of skill.

Most people would be better off going to college, earning a degree, creating a modest portfolio that shows a minimal level of competency, and then using job experience to work their way up to exceptional ability as they climb the corporate ladder.

So, it's not a one-size-fits-all proposition.

I do understand that a lot of the negative press about Elon Musk has nothing to do with him personally; it's more about Red Team vs. Blue Team.

New Sophia Class- Criminology to UMPI ?
Posted by: dm.hans32 - 08-09-2024, 05:16 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (3)

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone had any idea how long it takes new Sophia classes to be evaluated by UMPI for transfer credit?

Sophia just added a new Criminology class that seems quite a bit more efficient than Criminology at UMPI. I'm considering dropping Criminology for this term and trying to fly through some elective history classes until the end of the term.

Just wanted to see if anyone had any idea. Thanks!!

Study.com—is this course NCCRS or ACE?
Posted by: wow - 08-09-2024, 10:44 AM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (15)

Is there a simple way to see if a course on study.com is recommended by ACE or by NCCRS? I assumed it would be on the course information page, but don't see it there. Do you have to actually go to the Study.com page on NCCRS and ACE website to find out for each course?

  Which schools accept NCCRS?
Posted by: wow - 08-09-2024, 10:37 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (12)

Is there a list on this board somewhere of which of our commonly discussed schools accept NCCRS recommendations? e.g. TESU, COSC, Excelsior, UMPI, WGU, Pierpont, TAMUC (and maybe some of the less commonly discussed ones like university of the people, walden, Capella, etc.)

If not, let's start one! I'll use it to update the NCCRS page on the Wiki.

  Creating a Signature

I see an old thread on here from like 20 years ago about how to create or edit your signature for posts but the instructions are not currently applicable as there is no option to edit a signature on the left panel after clicking "user CP". Can anyone provide assistance?

UDEMEX Universidad Digital del Estado de Mexico
Posted by: Avidreader - 08-09-2024, 01:31 AM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (13)

Yup, there is yet another inexpensive online university for people with a good mastery of Spanish and ideally a CURP number. It seems like with the immense success of the Guanajuato State University offering a sibling Online school that other states in the country would end up opening their own.
This school doesn't seem to be affiliated with the Autonomous State U of the State of Mexico (known as the UAEMX school). Looks like a brand new university pushed by the federal government to bring low cost online degrees to more people. And the price is hard to beat. Their bachelors only cost 5000 MXN (260 USD) a year and their bachelors are 3 years long.

The real cost seems to be the titulation which demands a thesis and paying sinodales. Around 10,000 MXN (530 usd). I am not sure if some of these titulation fees are for everyone or the school has different graduation modalities which have been rightfully increasing in popularity such as doing 4 month certificate programs to graduate at the UNAM. But even so, getting a complete bachelors degree for less than 1400 USD could interest some folk.

The variety of degrees is very sparse and they are similar to the UNAM online university in the sense they only start 3 times a year instead of every 8 weeks like the UVEG. They have class starting dates in January and September. Just like the UVEG, this school demands a servicio social or community service. It could be difficult finding online options for students.

Masters degrees cost 27,000 mxn (1300 usd) without including the titulation, total 3000 usd.
Doctorates cost 23,736 mxn (1200 usd), so along with titulation, around 31,600 mxn including titulation (1660 usd).

While everything including the final exam of the degrees are online, you have to physically travel to offices in the State of Mexico to present documents. There are emails of coordinators that receive these documents. I cannot confirm if they would allow applicants abroad to send them by fedex or dhl. The emails of each coordinator is listed. Applicants could send them an email, explain they live too far away and ask if they'd accept shipped documents like the UVEG does. Maybe with some luck, one coordinator will accept this option and allow the entire degree to be done fully online.

The Udemex has these degrees:

Bachelors:
It and digital business
Public security ( degree program seems to be Criminal Justice focused)
Sales
Information administration (less technology and more management focused)
Psychology

Masters:
Public administration
Digital education technology (online classes)
Business Innovation

Doctorate:
Education innovation
