  Graduating Soon! Ask me questions!
Posted by: TaraD2020 - 03-04-2025, 06:32 PM - Forum: UoPeople - University of the People Discussion - Replies (32)

Hi All!  I am going to be graduating in April from UoPeople, so I wanted to start a thread for interested individuals to ask me questions.

A few points:

My degree is BSBA
I am a transfer student and I brought in a combo of Sophia and Coursera credits to hit the 90 max
I took 10 courses at UoPeople
I did receive a partial scholarship, so I paid less per course assessment
It took me exactly 1 year from starting to complete the 10 courses (2 per term)

My Total Cost is $1,310 (if you add Sophia, its $1,448.20)

I have a degree plan for the Bachelors of Science, Business Administration that I can share, but it is MY path, so it may not be exactly what you would follow.

Ask Away!

  UoPeople now RA

I opened my email and was surprised to see something from UoPeople. It was an email announcing they have received RA from the WASC. I'm sure they will increase the cost of their fees, but I'm sure they will still be one of the cheapest options to earning degrees and credits online.

  CS degree help
Posted by: swe_labs_nsx - 03-04-2025, 01:29 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (5)

Your Location: TX
Your Age: late 30s too old.
What kind of degree do you want?: BA or BS Computer Science - online
Current Regional Accredited Credits: Already have BA - Visual communication
total units I have is over 90.
Took a class at Umass lowell on python

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None.
Any certifications or military experience?: None
Budget: I'd really like to keep it under the 25k mark
Commitments: A full time job
Dedicated time to study: 20-30h a week
Timeline: 48 months or less
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: Tuition reimbursement is $4k a term up to $12k max total.  Kicks in later this year.

I have a few problems I need to work through.  I like a structured environment which is why I decided to go with school.  I know there are many free options and resources on internet but I prefer the structure so that's the compromise I have to accept.
Just wanted to see if there were any cheap options for CS programs.  My initial search landed with these:

  • FIU - B.A. Art Online
  • OSU - Postbacc Online
  • Weber State - AAS CS Online
  • Colorado State University Online CS
  • Dakota State University BSCS Online
  • Century College
  • Oakton College
I think one thing that has bugged me is just cost of tuition and zybooks.  I'm taking a C++ class that uses zybooks and don't really like it.  I hope that isn't another compromise I have to accept.

The other problem is if I go the BS route is the amount of math needed.  It varies but in general it stops at Calc I and Linear algebra.  For BA side it stops at pre-calc.  I haven't done math in 20 years.  Aleks test I can't stand.  Not sure the quickest way to get to College Algebra because I noticed for most community colleges it's 3 classes (pre-algebra / algebra / intermediate algebra) just to get to College Algebra.

Will There Be a Will There Be a Ceasefire Deal in Ukraine by April 20th?

(03-03-2025, 11:02 AM)Vle045 Wrote: Spitting on NATO and cozying up to autocrats? ✔️ Undermining the alliance that has kept global peace for decades while giving dictators a free pass. Reagan's "peace through strength" has morphed into "chaos through capitulation."

NATO is a joke, the EU and friends have smugly praised their "robust" social systems for years while also riding the coattails/coffers of the US for YEARS. Neglecting their defense and siphoning the US for everything we are worth.  Pretty crappy allies if you ask me. ONLY now do they realize how complacent they have been when the US doesn't want to play their games anymore. I TRAINED with NATO forces, they literally leeched off of us for every training exercise and took nothing seriously.

Let EUROPE's defense be on the EU no more siphoning the US over and over. Only now does the EU propose a peace deal after doing nothing for 3 years, and that peace deal still needs US backing per the UK. Shocker lol. The EU and the rest of NATO are pathetic as is the UN. The US holds the cards as Trump said.

Ukraine has objectively lost and the stalemate will result in the deaths of hundreds and hundreds of thousands.  Its easy to talk tough when you are not getting blown to pieces. I have seen the videos, its a gritty trench style warfare reminiscent to WW1. The Dems and EU are pro-war and death, what an interesting turn the world has made.  Putin is a dictator who only values strength instead of honor, both of the latter have none of either. The war needs to end and yes Ukraine WILL lose territory. There is absolutely no way they can drive Russia out at this point. Absolutely ZERO.

In this facility, inmates can choose to participate in a program where each day of active engagement reduces their sentence by two days. The approach, similar to boot camps or police training, emphasizes nearly full-time work or study to build discipline and work ethic.

This innovative model appears to benefit both inmates and society.

Question Quickest way to earn Bachelors?
Posted by: andyz - 03-02-2025, 02:35 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (1)

Due to life and work commitments, I couldn't earn a bachelor's degree or even complete my undergraduate Accounting Diploma (an Associate degree in the US) 10 years or so ago.

I have since been working in IT, with the last year being a Cyber/InfoSec Analyst.

I'm interested in getting a post-secondary education now and was wondering what the quickest degree can be obtained online.

I came across some graduate programs (certificates or even Master's) that may accept a combination of work and school for admission (no degree). Still, given my educational history, I'm not sure if that would be the right move.

I appreciate your responses.

  Degree planning for teen
Posted by: ElderlyLeemur - 03-01-2025, 02:19 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (16)

I am writing on behalf of my teen. I have used this site with great success and I return to glean info from the hive mind! I wish they could do UMPI since that's what I did but they are too young.
I have checked out the following:  Capella, PUG, SNHU

Your Location: Florida, USA
Your Age: 17
What kind of degree do you want?: Associate’s or Bachelor’s
Current Regional Accredited Credits: 1 from ASU UL (was trying for Pierpont BOG AAS but they did not do anything timely so here we are)
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: 45 ACE credits from Sophia
Any certifications or military experience?: No
Budget: Open
Commitments: None
Dedicated time to study: Unlimited
Timeline: As fast as possible
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: NA, have FL Prepaid but will save that for further education most likely

Looking for the quickest, prefer CBE based on writing and presentations rather than proctored exams if at all possible. Very open to choice of school, honestly looking for the absolute quickest way to level up.

Thanks in advance and I am sure I am forgetting something!

I officially finished my BABA PM/IS at the end of January/beginning of February, but for some wild reason, I did go through with the psychology minor—which almost has given me a permanent eye twitch. If you’re in the psych or master’s program, you probably know exactly which instructor I’m talking about! ?Jokes aside, this program has been incredibly challenging, but it has also strengthened my analytical and speaking skills—honestly, even more than the speech therapy I’ve had to do post-craniotomy.
Is anyone planning to attend the in-person graduation, or does that feel a little too contrived? I’m debating it. I’m probably old enough to be most of my classmates’ teen mom, but after delaying my education due to medical circumstances, walking at graduation would feel like a meaningful bucket list moment. If anyone is attending the in person graduation, it’d be awesome to connect and do a DF/Reddit-YourPace mini event, since we’ve all supported each other throughout our journeys!
Did anyone else get the itch to keep going and pursue the masters too? Or any program in general if not UMPI? If you did, did it prove beneficial for you?
Anyways, thank you to all of you who provided helpful feedback, suggestions and support months ago at the beginning of my journey. Also, congrats to everyone finishing this year & if you’re reading this and contemplating on UMPI - you should definitely pursue it!
