Seeking Advice on SOS-1100 and Business Capstone (BUS-4210)
Posted by: ExcellentPhoto - 08-31-2024, 03:08 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (9)

Hi All,

I will be taking my two required TESU courses during the October term to complete my degree, and registration just opened up. I am seeking advice/input on what the best course of action would be, and am curious if anyone has any recommendations as to the best instructors. I have not taken a course at TESU before. My options are as follows:

BUS-4210:

  • Guided Study with Timothy P. Kenny
  • Online with Bari L. Courts
SOS-1100 (all are Online):
  • Dr. Patrick M. McKiernan
  • Dr. Nickolas H. Dominello
  • Dr. Donna J. Duellberg
  • David Bradnick
  • John Bradley
  • Dale F. Coye
  • Victoria L. Hallberg
  • Jamey J. Heit
  • Jill Legare
  • Michele L. Herrera
Thanks in advance for any responses!

PS - This forum has been an invaluable tool in my journey to complete my degree. I definitely wouldn't have been able to finish my BSBA (knock on wood) so quickly without the inputs of the members and moderators of this forum, and the DegreeForum Wiki. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed to DegreeForum and made this possible.

Level 8 Diploma + PhD as ABD at Marywood U
Posted by: FrHaseKopf - 08-31-2024, 02:28 PM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - Replies (21)

As I was also considering the possibility of doing a Level 8 + topup Phd/DBA, I knew from the forum that National U is an option.
Today I found Marywood University also has ABD pathway for their Phd in strategic leadership.

https://www.marywood.edu/news/phd-completion-program

so completely online, if accepted for this pathway, you only need to complete 18 credits X $1,000 + fees? = less than $20,000.
Sounds like a acceptable plan for the price.
And the level 8 diplomas are business subjects, seems like good match for transfer.

Sophia.org done but now what? WGU or?
Posted by: ItsmeMarioo - 08-31-2024, 12:01 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (2)

Hi friends. First time poster. Think I found a link from someone on Reddit.

Edit:

Your Location: Tucson, AZ
Your Age: 43
What kind of degree do you want?: BA or BS
Current Regional Accredited Credits: Sophia.org only. 22 courses completed.
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: 3 credits from a European AA. Marketing Management
Any certifications or military experience?: N/A
Budget: I have a max of $10K saved up.  I'd like to go the cheapest route possible, but will consider spending more for easy and fast.
Commitments: Honestly, just kids/spouse and my pets. I currently work full time and can work on my studies part time or in the evenings/weekends.
Dedicated time to study: Weekend is game on! Summers are open as well.
Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal.  I would like to finish within 1-1.5 years (12-18 months)

Anyway, I started my Sophia journey in Feb and have now 94% left of my final course at Sophia. My plan was do the BS Supply Chain at WGU but trying to see if I have other or better options.

I'm 43 years old and have a family and a full-time job. I have worked in international import and export so know my way around that. - hence the Supply Chain choice.

However, the new proctoring system at WGU kind of is a deterrent right now and also the fact that English is my 2nd language so I'm not super confident with proctored exams.

Can you suggest something else for me? I have only looked at WGU. I really liked the self paced idea and being able to graduate in less than a years seems pretty awesome.

Any BS in Business is useful for me.

Pierpont BOG requirement / register before 10/4/24
Posted by: Jkjy - 08-31-2024, 10:48 AM - Forum: Associates Degrees Discussion - Replies (41)

Hello Everyone,
I am new to Pierpont and the BOG AAS program, and I am reaching out to seek your advice on how best to proceed with my course registration and transfer of credits.
I understand that Pierpont has a residency requirement, effective October 4, 2024, which mandates that students complete 12 credit hours of coursework directly through Pierpont, with passing grades, in order to graduate. Given this, I wanted to ask for your guidance on the following:

  1. I have 3 more courses to finish through Sophia Learning, and I am eager to register for Pierpont courses as soon as possible. However, I am concerned about the timing. Am I too late to register to transfer my credits from Sophia and my local college to graduate for the upcoming term, considering the new residency requirement?
  2. Should I prioritize registering for Pierpont courses immediately and continue working on my Sophia courses simultaneously, or would it be better to finish all courses at Sophia before registering?
  3. Am I taking acceptable courses that align with the program requirements?
To give you a better idea of my progress, here are the credits I have already earned, with the underlined courses I am currently working on:
Communication (3 Credits)
  • Workplace Communication (Sophia)
Math & Science (6 Credits)
  • College Algebra (Local Community College)
  • Introduction to Statistics (Sophia)
Social Sciences (3 Credits)
  • Macroeconomics (Sophia)
Computer Literacy (3 Credits)
  • Introduction to Information Technology (Sophia)
Free Electives (all from Sophia)
  • Critical Thinking (3 Credits)
  • Public Speaking (3 Credits)
  • Health and Wellness (3 Credits)
  • Introduction to Nutrition (3 Credits)
  • Art History I (3 Credits)
  • Art History II (3 Credits)
  • Introduction to Ethics (3 Credits)
  • Financial Accounting (3 Credits)
  • Introduction to Business (3 Credits)
  • Principles of Finance (3 Credits)
  • Project Management (3 Credits)
  • Conflict Resolution (3 Credits)
  • Human Biology (3 Credits)
  • US History I (3 Credits)
I would greatly appreciate your advice on how to proceed, as I am eager to complete my degree with Sophia credits only.
Thank you for your time and assistance.

  WWU DBA Journey
Posted by: withrown - 08-30-2024, 05:57 PM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - Replies (43)

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share an update on my doctoral journey. I decided to enroll in the program at William Woods University and am currently in the first class of the first cohort. There are only two of us in the cohort, but my classmate hasn't posted anything in the discussion boards yet, and we've already had four discussions (two per week). Since discussion posts make up 25% of our grade, even if he scores perfectly on everything else, he won’t get higher than a C. So, I suspect he might drop out. Of course, it’s also possible he has an accommodation that allows him not to post publicly. With the current pace of three classes per semester, as long as I don’t have to skip any terms, I should finish all my coursework by next August and then move on to the dissertation. Initially, there was talk about having to take breaks, but since the cohort is so small I'm hoping I won't have to skip any terms. There's also a chance that a new student might join in the September term, bringing us back up to two people.

By the end of the spring semester, I should have enough business courses to be officially qualified to teach undergraduate business classes, which will help me pick up some extra summer courses for additional income. If everything goes as planned and I'm ready to start my dissertation by next fall, I hope to make a case to my university for moving from a non-tenure track to a tenure-track position, which would mean an automatic raise.
The course I’m currently taking is on marketing strategy. It includes two discussion posts each week and a presentation due on Sundays. The instructor is an adjunct, but he’s very responsive to emails. I sent him a small question, and he replied in 30 seconds! He also provides detailed feedback, which is great.

As I continue on this journey, feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Good luck with your degree journeys, everyone!

  Master's in Management & Leadership

I'm wrapping up my Bachelor's degree at TESU and considering pursuing a Master’s in Management & Leadership at WGU. Has anyone completed this program there? I’d love to hear your thoughts on it. Do you think it’s possible to finish within 6 months to a year?

Does TESU take Saylor Software Engineering as UL or LL?
Posted by: Jwheels27 - 08-30-2024, 12:16 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (11)

I'm a bit confused, does TESU take Saylor's Software Engineering (CS 302) as upper level or lower level for the CS degree? The wiki degree plan says it does, but Ive seen comments on here to the contrary. If not, what's a good alternative? Thank you!!

Rest in peace, Pierpont BOG AAS?
Posted by: Robson - 08-30-2024, 11:17 AM - Forum: Associates Degrees Discussion - Replies (10)

Reading the threads on this forum, and also from my own emails, it seems like Pierpont is no longer responding to new applications or requests for their BOG AAS degree, at least from members here. Perhaps they'll want to be focusing more on WV residents going forward, which is understandable given their focus.

For those of us who managed to get their AAS degrees - it was good while it lasted!
