Degree plan advice - Impossible to realize
Posted by: hakjack - 10-18-2024, 05:33 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (11)

Hello to everyone

I'm seeking any advice or help regarding an online accredited Bachelor of Science / Eng in a STEM or quantitative field (Math, CS, Eng, Statistics...) or / and cybersecurity. Here's some information about myself:

I'm 22, based in Italy, I've just enrolled Open Studies (non stop), B.Eng. in IT from Metropolia University --> Can do up to 120 ECTS of 240 in total.
I have a full time job as a Cyber Security engineer, and have overall 2 years of experience in Cyber Security. I do freelancing as well. Companies are requesting me to have a degree, for requirement.
Since last year I've started to consume material related to Investment, Trading, and general finance, discovering a new passion.
I felt in love with the topics, particularly to the hard understanding of Trading and financial markets. I basically want to build, at the same time, a dual career in cybersecurity, which I've already started and in Quant/Finance/Trading world.

In the last months I've been really stressed trying to understand what I should do in order to bdo both of these, which type of degree, certification or what else is needed.
After talking with some professionals, they adviced to start a bachelor's degree in financial mathematics, or another quantitative based degree.

I've been a quiet looker and reader on the forum, but right now I sincerely need help, I'm mentally ill.

Your Location: Italy
Your Age: 22
What kind of degree do you want?: Bachelor of Science / Eng in a STEM or Quantitative field or / and cybersecurity.
Current Regional Accredited Credits: None
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None
Any certifications or military experience?: No
Commitments: I have a fulltime day job, but have flexibility being remote. No spouse or kids.
Budget: Ideally less than 6k. In case of a double degree, can increase to less than 10k$ (?)
Dedicated time to study: The time needed.
Timeline: ASAP
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: Unfortunately not.

I tried to think on all the programs I was able to discover in so many hours of research by targeting specific areas like Europe, some asian countries, USA, Canada, Oceania and so on.
I searched for competency based, odd ways like top-ups (similar to OTHM), college hacking and everything there was on the community and in other places online.
I called around 15 universities, only in europe to ensure they had or not online degrees and english taught.
I really couldn't find nothing specific for me, which can be done in a reasonable time (I'm 22, getting older...) with a low cost and specific degree.

After it I would ideally pursue the OMSCS from GaTech or another stem master's.

What do you think guys?

Thank you so much for the time spent reading and for any suggestion.

Hi there! I've been checking out this forum for the past few days after I decided to attend UMPI Spring 2025 Session 1, and it's been so helpful. Unfortunately, the school takes a little while to respond and I haven't had much luck getting all my concerns answered, so I was wondering if you could give me a hand.

First, I'd like to give you some background: I'm originally from the Dominican Republic, born and raised there. I finished highschool and one year of college before moving to the United States, so most of my education is based internationally. Earlier last year I started taking classes with WGU Academy to gain admission to WGU without having to take an English test or submit extra documents as I didn't have access to them, and I ended up enrolling for the June 2024 Start Date. Long story short, WGU isn't for me lol. So, now I'm a little indecisive about what the best course of action is in my case:

1. Getting my highschool transcripts wouldn't be very easy and fairly expensive with the translation work + evaluation. So, since I have 29 credits from higher-ed and 8 of those are from an institution in the US, would I be able to complete the 60cr waiver with Sophia classes? Or maybe, should I do the BOG AAS with Pierpont?

2. Also, if I do the AAS with Pierpont, would that waive the English test requirement? I'm trying to find the most straightforward and least expensive way to go about meeting the admission requirements. I was just thinking that by completing the AAS I could save some money and time, without having to jump through platforms and institutions trying to get my highschool transcripts, translating them, evaluating them, taking Sophia classes for gen-eds, taking an English test, etc.

Thank you! I know this is a lot, and I appreciate it so much.

Univesidad Abierta y a Distancia de Mexico UNADM
Posted by: Avidreader - 10-17-2024, 04:12 AM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - No Replies

Yes, yet another option for people with a very tight budget that speak fluent Spanish and want a college degree.

The UNADM is extremely popular in Mexico because it is 100% free (so expect fierce competition for sign ups), and probably the most talked about public online university in Mexico alongside the UVEG.
The degree offerings are still a bit sparse (but given its popularity, I expect them to add more degrees in the future). Sign ups are usually once a year around late July (classes start every October) and you can't accelerate degrees like in the UVEG. Students mention the degrees demand a lot of time, classes tend to be synchronized in variable schedules, which makes the school a difficult option for people with jobs.

For people without time constraints and don't mind taking 4 years to get their degree instead of a bit less than 3, the free price tag will be worth it.

This school forcibly demands a QR code Mexican CURP number in digital format along with a scanned copy of the highschool degree. It seems like the school doesn't cater to foreigners, so I don't know if they accept foreign ID numbers in liew of the CURP and Spanish translations of highschool degrees.

AI/Machine Learning Subject Based BS degree
Posted by: vetvso - 10-17-2024, 02:38 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

With more AI/Machine Learning Classes moving online and for ACE credit, is there a degree yet? Minimal in-institute classes allow us to transfer as much as possible. Between Google, Amazon, IBM, Microsoft, and more, getting classes within AI/Machine learning to 30 credits is very doable.

Hello everyone, I've been busy! I hope you've been great! Currently, I am working on business policy strategy and business analytics at UMPI. The workload has exceeded my expectations! Anyway, I have three classes left. I will take two classes next session and one in the spring. I've heard BUS325 is complicated, so I will do that one last due to the fact that my current business policy strategy class is so long and I feel tired. Unless there is a problem, I will take these classes in the following order. Any thoughts?

Thanks Heart

BUS 353 Business Ethics

BUS 335: Organizational Behavior

BUS 325 Financial Management

Breaking Into Sales - Help With Getting a Bachelor’s Degree (Most Likely Business Adm
Posted by: AccountingForThis - 10-16-2024, 01:24 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (8)

Hello everyone!

I previously sought help from this forum to determine how to obtain an accounting degree with the goal of becoming a CPA. After much research and reflection, my goals have since changed and I am now eager to start a career in sales. Since I received some incredibly helpful advice before, I hope that you will be willing to help me again.

Since experience is highly valued in sales, I am currently applying to entry-level roles. While I understand that having a degree is not a necessity in this field, I still want to get my bachelor’s degree because I think it will help open doors for me. In particular, a common way of entering business-to-business sales is through a trainee program but the vast majority of companies require applicants to have a bachelor’s degree. While I would ideally like to specialize in a technical/scientific industry in the future (e.g. healthcare, industrial, SaaS), I think majoring in business administration will give me the most options. Thus, I anticipate pursuing UMPI’s BABA in Project Management & Information Systems but would like to hear your advice.

Your Location: Ohio, USA
Your Age: 22
What kind of degree do you want?: Open to suggestions but most likely business administration - anticipating pursuing UMPI’s BABA in PM & IS

Current Regional Accredited Credits:
Maricopa Community Colleges: 9 credits total
ENG101 English Composition I, 3, A
ENG102 English Composition II, 3, A
ECE102 Intro to Engineering, 2, A
FYE101 Intro to College and Career Success, 1, A

Arizona State University: 3 credits total
SOC101 Intro to Sociology, 3, A

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits:
CLEP Credits: 3 credits total
Analyzing and Interpreting Literature, 3, 86%

Any certifications or military experience? No
Budget: I don’t have a strict budget but would prefer to keep it under $8K. Cheaper is better unless it takes considerably longer.
Commitments: I intend to work during my studies but do not yet know if it will be full-time or part-time.
Dedicated time to study: I can dedicate as much time as needed to study when I am not working. I anticipate this being about 20 hours per week if I work full-time and at least 30 hours per week if I work part-time.
Timeline: I don't have a strict timeline but my goal is to obtain my degree in less than 1 year.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: I expect to pay for my degree out-of-pocket but will continue researching my options.

  Sophia and Excelsior?
Posted by: GoBroncos95 - 10-16-2024, 10:49 AM - Forum: EU - Excelsior University Discussion - Replies (10)

My buddy noticed the website stated 113 credits out of 120, I got a friend in the miilitary who is looking to transfer all his sophia credit which is 128 credits.

He didnt take any previous college credit prior to doing Sophia, and doesnt have any Study.com or Straighterline credit.

I believe he is looking into Bachelors of Professional Studies in Business and Management. I tried looking at the catalog and but it was a little confusing to navigate and match up what classes align to the sophia transfer equivilancy sheet.

I noticed yesterday that all of the courses with statistics.com have expired on 09/30/2024 with ACE. Hopefully they are in the process of renewing, but in the meantime just be aware of it and hold off on taking classes with them. Not sure how that will influence the TESU Bachelor's in Data Analytics if these courses don't end up getting their ACE accreditation renewed.
